The cast and production team gather to map out the journey we will take when The Swallowing Dark opens on October 6. Watching the hurricanes that have recently ravaged Texas, the islands of the Caribbean and Florida can bring us a bit closer to understanding the urgency and heartache of having to flee from home. Escaping from a brutal regime brings a whole different set of terrors and hard choices. In The Swallowing Dark, Canaan and his young son have called Liverpool home for 5 years after seeking asylum from Robert Mugabe's horrific dictatorship in Zimbabwe. They could now lose their home and safety as the choices Canaan made to stay alive are thrown up into the harsh light of interrogation.
The Swallowing Dark runs October 4-22. All shows are at the Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake, 302 South Hicks Street. (South Hicks Street runs along the side of The Drake apartment building at 1512 Spruce Street.)
